I know it is finally Spring when Mike sets up the copper water feature in the front flower bed. It freezes in the winter and has to be broken down and stored away.
But when the freeze is over, this is the nicest place to be. This is a little oasis and the copper fountain is the focal point.
The water pumps out the top through copper tubing-sculpted to simulate branches. The birds love to perch on these and drink from the cool water. They are as eager for the fountains rebirth each spring as I am. The ceramic bowl catches the water until it gently trickles over the sides and down the copper base.
This base has developed the most interesting natural patina over the years.
And simple ingenuity makes the fountain practical and functional. The mint bed adds to the beauty of the cooling water.
And it becomes an oasis for creatures of all shapes and sizes.
And just as refreshing as the front porch oasis, is a seat by the open window with the sound of the water trickling down the copper and the goldfinch songs, Gamble Quails calling and spring awakening. This time of year only lasts a little while, and it is such a treat.
Where is your Spring Oasis? What do you enjoy most after the thaw?
